My name is Mark Romero and I am a general and laparoscopic surgeon with a colorectal interest here in Port Macquarie, NSW.

I was born in Lima, Peru and migrated to Australia with my family in 1988 when I was 11 years old. I spoke no English but learned quickly (my Spanish is still strong so I can speak in Spanish with patients that need it). Before studying medicine I obtained a Bachelor of Biomedical Science at Griffith University in Brisbane, QLD in 1998. I supplemented this with a research year (Honours) afterwards (1999) before getting into medicine.

I obtained my medical degree from Sydney University in 2003 and obtained my general surgical fellowship (FRACS) in 2012 after extensive training out of Westmead Hospital in Sydney. I have experience in most areas of general surgery (excluding breast oncology) and this includes extensive laparoscopic skills. My areas of interest are colorectal surgery (laparoscopic when feasible) and hernia surgery. I am a member of the Port Macquarie Gastrointestinal Cancer Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) and participate in regular meetings to discuss and plan the best surgical and medical care for my colorectal cancer patients, in order to ensure the best outcomes. My non-medical interests include photography, aerial photography and videography, digital illustrating, computers and technology, motorcycle riding and snowboarding.
